The population of New Zealand is approximately 4.4 million, New Zealand may be a predominantly urban country, with 72 % of the population living in 16 main urban areas and fifty three percent living within the four largest cities of Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, and Hamilton. The life expectancy of a New Zealand kid born in 2008 was 82.four years for females, and seventy eight.4 years for males. Life expectancy at birth is forecast to extend from 80 years to eighty five years in 2050 and infant mortality is expected to decline. In 2050 the population is forecast to succeed in the 5.3 million, the median age to rise from 36 years to forty three years and the share of people sixty years of age and older rising from eighteen % to 29 p.c.
Unemployment peaked higher than 10 % in 1991 and 1992, following the 1987 share market crash,  but eventually fell a record low of 3.4 p.c in 2007 (ranking fifth from twenty-seven comparable OECD nations).
